A workplace built around precision and follow through
PME CNC Machining operates from Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal and supports customers in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay and Johannesburg. Our work is centred on one-off parts, short runs and repeat orders where attention to detail matters from the first drawing check to the final inspection report.
People who do well here are organised, calm under pressure and comfortable working with tight deadlines. We value practical thinking, clear communication and a strong respect for measurements, machine settings and part traceability.
Roles we commonly hire for
We hire for hands-on and support roles across the workshop and office side of the business. Depending on demand, we may look for people with experience in programming, setting up CNC machines, inspection, scheduling or client support.
- CNC programmer or setter for milling and turning work
- Machining supervisor or production support
- Quality and inspection support
- Client coordination and order follow up
- Workshop assistant for material handling and part preparation
Some roles call for formal machining experience, while others suit people who are detailed and keen to learn. We are especially interested in candidates who understand small batch work and the pace that comes with local manufacturing.
What we look for in a candidate
We look for people who can read drawings, work carefully with materials and understand that a small error can affect fit, finish or assembly. Experience with aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel and engineering plastics is useful, though we also value a willingness to learn the right process for each job.
- Strong attention to dimensions and tolerances
- Good communication with production and client teams
- Ability to work neatly and keep records in order
- Respect for safety, machine care and housekeeping
- Comfort with checking parts against drawings and notes
Because many jobs are short run, people need to stay flexible and ready to switch between tasks without losing accuracy. Load-shedding and delivery timing can affect planning too, so practical thinking matters.
The kind of work you would be part of
Our team supports CNC milling and turning jobs from the first enquiry through to dispatch. That can include drawing review, material selection, prototype planning, batch planning, tolerance guidance, part optimisation and inspection reporting.
In day to day work, you may help with sample part remake, assembly fit checks, drawing updates and repeat order support. It is exact work, but also varied enough to keep you learning. On some days the focus is on a single bracket or shaft, on others it is a small production run with multiple parts needing careful sequencing.
How to apply through our contact page
If you would like to work with PME CNC Machining, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and mention the role or type of work you are interested in. Include your experience, the equipment or processes you have worked with and the area you are based in.
We review applications as they come in and contact suitable candidates when a match comes up. Please keep your details current and make sure your CV shows the type of machining, quality or coordination work you have handled before.
Why people stay with a small-batch shop
Working in a smaller machining environment means you see the full job rather than only one step of it. You get to understand how a drawing becomes a finished component, how material choice affects the process and how careful checks protect the final fit. It is practical work with visible results.
For the right person, that mix of responsibility and variety makes the job worthwhile. You become part of a team that keeps production moving for clients across South Africa, while maintaining the steady standards that a local job shop depends on.
